Importance of P.A.

It's days like these where I really need to remember what I'm all about... what I'm going to school for... and what I've always loved to do. I've been wearing a pedometer for the past week for Fitness Education and realized today that I need to step up my game-- and my steps, even on days as stressful as today and the next few to come. I skipped out on the gym tonight due to an abundance of work, but feel I probably would've been getting about 6 hours of sleep even if I had went and worked out. I'm hoping I don't feel too sluggish tomorrow and that Mr. Slautterback will have some more gymnastics to get me feeling more awake at 8:00 a.m. Tomorrow's a new day, and I almost forgot-- a game day for volleyball! Tomorrow I'll make up for the steps I lost today, for sure!

Games this weekend

This weekend the softball team traveled to Bowie State University near Washington D.C. and Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia. We did well against Bowie State beating them in both games, with several of our younger players having key plays or hits. We also did well against Davis & Elkins-- but only in the first game; the score was ended at 10-1 due to the mercy rule. That right there makes me furious that we ended up laying down and letting them beat us the second game 5-4. We start off well at first, and then I guess we think since we crushed them the first game the second game will be the same, not matter how much effort we do or do not put in. I was excited to hopefully get a win against Edinboro tomorrow (Tuesday) and put that D&E game far behind us, but it got cancelled for some reason and rescheduled for Saturday, April 4th. In a way it was good for us to have an eye opening game like we did against D&E so early in the season... hopefully we all learned something from it, I know I did.. and remember it for future games. Our team looks very strong this year and it'd be a shame if we didn't go far because of instances like that.

Spring break results

The softball team ended spring break with a record of 7-4, which isn't too shabby; but a few of those lost games where we beat ourselves came back to bite us when it came around to getting ranked. Some people may argue with me but I don't think being ranked--at least right now-- is that big of a deal. We have all season to prove what we can do. Plus I think it's better when no one really knows who you are and you blow them out of the water. Team played well as a whole; not one person making endless errors, or one person hitting endless bombs. I'd type more, but I'm leaving soon for games in D.C. and WV this weekend, and still need to eat and pack! If yall aren't busy Tuesday at 2:30 and 4:30 come on over to the softball field (across harmony from the football field) and help support us while we take on Edinboro-- I hear the weather's supposed to be nice!

SRU Softball v. 5th ranked team in the nation, Francis Marion

The game started out pretty smoothly. They would get some baserunners, but not harm was done until about the 3rd inning. We were hitting, when we were swinging. Eventually they managed 4 runs against us and we decided we were going to do something about it in the 6th inning, which was 6 innings too late. I am the leadoff batter, followed by another speedy player on her feet. After this game I realized the "you go, i go" pattern. Talk about a little pressure, right? Come the 6th inning of the Francis Marion game I singled, stole second, and then stole third on a fake bunt. Courtney (the 2nd batter) then on a slap, singled me in to score our first run. I guess that's all the spark we needed. After that the rest of the line-up proceeded to put the sticks to work. We ended up holding FM to 4 runs the whole game, but failed to muster up more than two runs. Losing this game was a pretty big disappoinment, but it was a great thing for our team. We were in shock when Coach told us they were ranked 5th in the nation for D2 schools. If it weren't for beating ourselves that game, we'd have defeated the 5th ranked team in the nation-- that would've been huge! This set the tone for the rest of the games in South Carolina. We played Slippery Rock Softball and showed the last three teams what we were about.

Leaving for Georgia

I never really realized how much I hate to pack, until I'm almost done, each time. It probably doesn't make it any easier on me that I wait until the last minute to pack, but I didn't do too too bad this time. I'm just about done and only have one bag this time, unlike my two big duffels last year. I think the part I'm most excited for right now is being able to sleep for hours and hours on the bus: this week was pretty exhausting. Once we get down there and get settled it's going to be anything but a break. We're looking at at least two games a day, more often three than two though. However playing in Savannah Georgia is going to be a heck of a lot nicer than practicing in the field house till midnight, or taking fly balls on the football field in 40 degrees weather.

This whole web page ordeal was extremely frustrating for me. Dr. Leight sure was right when she said this was time consuming. I thought that I gave myself enough time to do it, trying to span in out into three long days in the library, but even at that it was cutting it close with all the questions I had. I hated how when I inserted pictures I couldn't really move them around, and when I put bullets on my pages only the first type of the theme was applied. Infact the theme really didn't do much for me except give me background and font colors that didn't clash, as well as a neat table outline. But looking at the whole project, that's not very much. I wish I would've paid more attention in my high shcool computer class when we made a web page in word; I feel using word was a lot easier and that I could do niftier things with it.

Griffin iTrip Auto Smart Scan

I got a new yellow iPod for Christmas and decided I wanted to be able to listen to it in my car. Instead of going to Walmart or anywhere else, I just figured I'd order an itrip offline... bad idea. I ordered a certain model that charges and plays it for $99.99 off the apple website, and two days after it had come and I had started to use it, I saw one at Walmart for $44.88... the same EXACT brand and model. Mad was an understatement. I ended up sending the one from online back and buying the one at Walmart and saved $50. All in all works pretty well, except for when I'm driving throught a city or stopped at a big intersection. This is definitely beyond my knowledge, but it seems that the static signal gets messed up in certain areas. This doesn't bother me too much though... I like way back in the sticks of Mt. Pleasant where there's tons of farm land and no traffic lights.

I'm feeling rather under the weather right now, but thanks to Mr. Slautterback's 8:00 a.m. Movement Education class I'm fairly wide awake... all things considered. The first day in his class was close to my first day in Dance Fundamentals with Thom Cobb. Both classes required being comfotable moving in ways I'm not comfortable, in front of a class full of people I hardly know. However both professors are extremely laid back and show a lot of genuine concern for each of the their students. This made loosening up and participating in class to my fullest ability very easy, even on the first day of class. I'm glad I had those two professors for those classes. I feel that by taking theses classes I've gathered more knowledge and teaching tools for later in my career.
